Canada Talc Limited
Project: Indoor Air Quality Sampling
Location: Marmora, Ontario
Year: 2010
Client: Canada Talc Limited
Cambium was retained to perform an air quality assessment at the Canada Talc Limited facility located at in Marmora, Ontario. Dolomite and talc processing and sizing, along with bagging operations occur at the facility. The air sampling program was conducted to outline the industrial hygiene aspects of the processes and to determine and understand the extent of incidental exposure to silica and particulate in the work areas of the facility, if any.
Cambium conducted onsite sampling for respirable particulate, respirable silica (alpha quartz) and total particulate. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Manual of Analytical Methods protocols were utilized to collect size selective respirable particulate and silica air samples through filter redeposition. In general, air sample pumps were calibrated to achieve a specific flow rate to draw air through Dorr-Oliver or SKC aluminum cyclones prior to the contaminants being deposited on laboratory supplied polyvinyl chloride filter cassettes. It was determined that all personal and area samples collected for all the potential contaminants samples, respirable particulate matter, respirable silica (alpha quartz) and total particulate matter, were calculated to be less than the applicable Ministry of Labour Time Weighted Average Exposure Value limits.
