Holloway House

Project: Indoor Mould Sampling
Location: Municipality of Centre Hastings, Ontario
Year: 2010
Client: Holloway House

At the request of the property owner, mould sampling was conducted by Cambium in an effort to identify recognized environmental conditions associated with the subject property located in the Municipality of Centre Hastings, Ontario.  The property had been purchased after being previously seized by the police and then forfeited to ‘Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada’. The former property owner had been using two (2) outbuildings onsite as a marijuana grow operation.  The mould assessment was completed for the purpose of meeting an Order to Remedy Unsafe Building, as issued by the Chief Building Officer of the Municipality.

A site reconnaissance was initially completed which indicated moisture impact related to past operations caused visible mould growth within both of the outbuildings. After remediation of the mould took place, Cambium personnel returned to the site to inspect the buildings and conduct spore trap analysis. At that time, there was no visible mould growth or moisture damage within the area of previous concern.

Sampling for airborne fungi was conducted using a high volume air sample pump with Air-o-Cell media cassettes. The analytical results indicated that the spore counts (fungal structures) from the sampling were greater outdoors than indoors. Based on the data collected in regards to air borne mould exposure (spore concentrations), the conditions inside the two (2) outbuildings associated with the residence were determined to be acceptable for occupancy.
