Acoustic Assessment & Modeling
Cambium Environmental staff work to measure, analyze and solve various noise related problems and compliance issues including Environmental Compliance Approval applications, acoustic assessments, environmental noise impact studies and acoustical audits.
An application for an Environmental Compliance Approval may require a noise impact study and an environmental noise assessment to be completed. In order for a facility to obtain an Environmental Compliance Approval (Air/Noise) (ECA), the noise emissions are required to be assessed and documented to determine the potential impact on nearby Point(s) of Reception (PORs) in comparison to specific sound level limits contained in published ministry Noise Pollution Control (NPC) guidance documents.
Cambium Environmental has dedicated, professional and experienced staff focused on assisting companies with the preparation of acoustic assessment reports and the development of noise mitigation plans if necessary. Our engineers are experts in:
- Conducting detailed acoustic assessments.
- Performing acoustic audits.
- Managing noise abatement projects.
Acoustical measurements are generally required to identify the sources of noise and the related impact on the surrounding environment. Cambium Environmental personnel are trained and experienced in conducting noise measurements for various applications. We use calibrated, state-of-the-art instrumentation and measurement techniques to accurately determine the sound power level of the noise-producing source.
Cambium Environmental offers solutions to meet and surpass operational and legislative requirements of commercial, industrial, institutional and municipal markets across Canada.
Acoustic modeling is the mathematical estimation of noise impacts from sources within a study area. Several factors impact the fate and transport of noise in the atmosphere including quantity and type of noise, site configuration, source characteristics, and surrounding terrain, among others. Cambium Environmental utilizes a software tool which is a proprietary noise calculation package used to calculate, assess, predict, and display environmental noise. This software uses calculation algorithms and 3D visualization of the predicted noise emissions, often referred to as acoustical mapping. The software calculates the resultant noise level and takes into account a range of factors affecting the propagation of sound including:
- Facility layout, which includes the position and elevation of each building, piece of equipment and other facades in the propagation path.
- Magnitude of the noise source in terms of sound power in a third octave band quantification.
- Distance between the source(s) and the nearby points of reception.
- Presence of reflecting or absorptive surfaces.
- Hardness of the ground between the source and the points of reception.
